In January 2021, the project “Pedagogical Professionalism and Internationalization – Dialogue with the Post-Soviet Islamic Educational Space” at the Research and Teaching Unit Diversity Education and International Education Research in cooperation with the Kazakh National Pedagogical Abaj University (KazNPU) in Almaty started. It offers students, doctoral candidates and experienced researchers of FAU and KazNPU the opportunity to participate in a professional and cultural dialogue with the post-Soviet Islamic world on the topic of pedagogical professionalization in the context of internationalisation. In the next step, the cooperation is to be extended to the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University (ASPU) in Baku and to promote a trinational (German-Kazakh-Azerbaijani) academic dialogue.

Students, doctoral candidates and experienced researchers work on a thematic focus (e.g. seminar papers, Bachelor’s, Master’s or admission theses, publications) in groups composed of participants from three countries, thereby learning about an international comparative perspective and the culture of the partner countries. The thematic foci of the groups are

  • Pedagogical professionalism and language(s) in the context of internationalisation
  • Pedagogical professionalism and the prevention of religious and nationalistic radicalisation among young people
  • Potential of dual models of professional training of educators and the link between theory and practice in the context of internationalisation and cooperation with non-university actors

In the project, a regular exchange between the members of the working groups takes place. For this purpose, a visit of the German participants to the Kazakh partner university in Almaty is also planned, which (depending on the epidemiological situation digitally or in physical presence) will probably take place in September/October and will be financially supported from the project funds. The results will be presented at the end of 2021 at the conference “Pedagogical Professionalism and Internationalisation – Dialogue with the Post-Soviet Islamic Education Space” at FAU.

Interested students, doctoral candidates or experienced researchers are cordially invited to participate in the exchange within the project. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact the project assistant Maren Hanneken (maren.hanneken@fau.de).

The project is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funds from the Federal Foreign Office (AA) as part of the program “Higher Education Dialogue with the Muslim World”.
